Course Description:

Most dentists have the clinical skills to fabricate and fit an oral appliance for a patient that snores or has obstructive sleep apnea. The knowledge and skills needed to integrate sleep dentistry into a general dental practice, however, are quite extensive . Early in his 39 year career, Dr. Osborne started treating patients with mandibular advancement devices. The last few years were focused on learning a more comprehensive approach to helping his patients with sleep breathing disorders. Within the last year he completed the Mastery Program with the AADSM and he will share the most current opportunities to attain competency in the emerging field of sleep dentistry. He will review some of the more important concepts every dentist should know before treating OSA patients.  He will review the  events and circumstances that drew him into developing a sleep dentistry practice. Technology such as CBCT, intraoral scanners, and telemedicine will be highlighted as a way to augment the screening, education, and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. His sleep ambassador and clinical director, Mr. Ruben Avalos, may join him as they demonstrate how the medical and dental professions can better work together to expedite and more efficiently care for patients with sleep breathing disorders .

Objectives: To review the pathway to become a Qualified sleep dentist or even a Diplomate with the AADSM.
