The course is designed for postdoctoral fellows, advanced graduate students, faculty members, research staff and residents/fellows who are interested in a career that includes teaching.  Attendees should desire to acquire knowledge about learning processes and to develop educational planning, teaching and assessment skills to enhance their "teaching toolkit."

UTeach participants practice key skills needed for success in college-level teaching as well as for working individually and in teams to accomplish course objectives. Classes are supplemented by readings, worksheets and self-assessment inventories. The course provides instruction in contemporary pedagogic techniques and emphasizes teaching science courses for undergraduates on campuses at predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs), rather than teaching graduate / medical / dental students at academic health science centers. UTeach instructors include faculty from the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing at UT Health San Antonio and from local PUIs (St. Mary's University and Our Lady of the Lake University).

UTeach is sponsored by the San Antonio Biomedical Education and Research (SABER) Program and is supported, in part, by an Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the NIH (PHS grant, K12 GM11726).  The cost of the course is $50.  A limited number of scholarships are available to trainees to cover the cost of the course.  Please contact iracda@uthscsa.edu for further information.
