This workshop will help you:

  • Recognize patient-provider communication with the spirit of motivational interviewing (MI).
  • Understand the difference between Brief Motivational Interviewing and Motivational Interviewing;
  • Respond to patients using open-ended statements, affirmations, reflections, and summaries (OARS).
  • Respond to patient’s arguments against change without amplifying resistance.
  • Listen for and amplify change talk using reflection, open questions, and importance/confidence scales.
  • Know when and how to give advice or information.

    Criteria for Successful Completion and Award of Contact Hours: 

    • Complete the evaluation.
    • Attest attendance at sessions for which credit is being claimed.

    Continuing Nursing Education:

    University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

    Once successful completion has been verified, a “Certificate of Successful Completion” will be provided for credit claimed for up to 3.5 contact hours. 

    Continuing Social Work Education:

    University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing is approved by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners to provide Social Worker CE.

    Once successful completion has been verified, a “Certificate of Successful Completion” will be provided for credit claimed for up to 3.5 contact hours. 

    Continuing Education Unit:

    The Centralized Training Infrastructure for Evidence Based Practices is a provider of continuing education for the following clinical licenses: Psychologists, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) Counselors.

    Once successful completion has been verified, a “Certificate of Successful Completion” will be provided for credit claimed for up to 3.5 contact hours. 

    CHW CEs (combined pre-conference and symposium): 

    South Coastal Area Health Education Center #47, is a Community Health Worker (CHW) training program that is certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Promotor(a)/CHW Training and Certification Program.
     
    10th Annual Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Symposium Conference 
    South Coastal Area Health Education Center designates this activity for a maximum of 14.5 non-DSHS Community Health Worker credits in Knowledge. 

    Continuing Medical Education:
