Harm Reduction Approach to Care: A practical model to support meeting people 'where they are at'

This presentation will provide a brief overview of the principles of Harm Reduction strategies as a tool to engage people who use drugs including those who are pregnant. Participants will explore their own implicit bias, understand the impact of stigma on people who use drugs, and learn strategies to engage relationally with clients/patients/participants in a program. A demonstration video will be presented to highlight these objectives. 

Julie Falchuk is Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Austin, Texas. She works as a Psychotherapist in a group practice where she provides individual, couples and group services for people struggling with mental health vulnerabilities and exploring their relationship to substance use. Julie served on the board of the Austin Harm Reduction Coalition for over 4 years and has witnessed the valuable impact that harm reduction services can have on people's lives. When not working, Julie enjoys practicing yoga and meditation, bike riding, hiking and spending time with her partner and two sweet pups.
